Millie The Dog Went Missing From Her Home And Ended Up On Some Dangerous Mudflats

One lucky dog was rescued thanks to quick thinking from a search and rescue team…who lured her out of a dangerous situation by tying a sausage to a drone.

Millie, a three-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, went missing from her home near Emsworth, England, in January 2022. BBC reports that Millie’s owner, Emma Oakes, said she slipped out of her leash and ran away while on a walk.

Denmead Drone Search and Rescue Group embarked on a search for Millie. They eventually located the missing pup by flying a drone over the area.

The rescuers felt a great sense of urgency to save Millie, who had become trapped on some dangerous mudflats.

Chris Taylor, a member of the rescue group, told BBC, “The marshland was due to flood within hours so we had to quickly initiate a plan.”

Rescuers Found An Unconventional Way To Save The Dog…By Dangling A Sausage From A Drone

After two days of unsuccessful rescue attempts, the rescuers had an idea. They tried using a sausage to coax Millie away from the mudflats.

Our drone pilot thought of tying food to lure her away – so after a risk assessment we decided to give it a try,” Chris Taylor told BBC.

The rescue team tied a sausage to one of their drones and dangled it in front of the little dog. Just as they hoped…their idea worked!

Rescuers managed to lead Millie to higher ground, but they still weren’t able to catch her. After eating half of the sausage, she disappeared into the nearby woods.
