Emmy Russell Receives Invitation To Sing At Grand Ole Opry Following Her Auditon For American Idol

After her beautiful American Idol audition performance, the Grand Ole Opry has asked Emmy Russell to come back and sing for them again.

For those who don’t know, 25-year-old Emmy is the granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn.

The Opry asked Emmy Russell to come back and sing for them following her "Idol" audition. Here, she is pictured with her grandmother Loretta Lynn and great aunt Crystal Gayle.

Emmy made her Opry debut on April 13, 2023. While there, she performed an original song she wrote in Loretta’s honor, “Memaw’s Guitar.”

At the time, those who attended Emmy’s show praised her gorgeous performance and songwriting skills.

Before that, Emmy Russell unofficially performed at the Grand Ole Opry House for Loretta’s memorial service concert. Loretta died on October 4, 2022.

Emmy joined Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas, to perform “Lay Me Down.” Willie and Loretta released “Lay Me Down” in 2016. It was their first and only duet together.

Lukas and Emmy’s touching performance later earned a Performance of the Year nomination at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.

Emmy Russell Auditioned For Season 22 Of American Idol

While Emmy has performed country music in the past, she’s hoping to blaze her own trail. She showcased her unique musical style when auditioning for Season 22 of American Idol.

Emmy chose not to wear any makeup to her audition. She wanted to present her most true and authentic self to the judges.

They were stunned when Emmy revealed her grandmother was Loretta Lynn. They were also stunned by the beautiful sound of Emmy’s voice on her vulnerable original song, “Skinny.”

Ultimately, all three judges voted to give Emmy a Golden Ticket to Hollywood.

Her audition also caught the attention of many Idol fans. As of this writing, her audition video has over 2.7 million views on YouTube alone.

Emmy Russell Celebrates Being Invited Back To The Opry

After her Idol audition took the world by storm, the Opry asked Emmy to return and perform for them again. She was understandably thrilled and shared a picture of their invitation on social media.

The note read:

“Look at you go! Congratulations on your ‘American Idol’ success! Come see us when you can. All of us at the OPRY.”

Emmy said she was “feeling thankful” to receive such “a beautiful letter.”

Emmy Russell will return to the Opry on Wednesday (March 20). She plans to perform “a couple songs” during her visit. We can’t wait!
