American Idol Celebrates Mother’s Day
The Top 7 contestants on American Idol honored the mother figures in their lives with emotional performances and heartfelt songs. As season 23 moves swiftly towards the finale, judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie continue to guide the contestants as they hope to find the next rising star in music.
For tonight’s episode (May 11), the competitors prepared two songs: one from Disney’s catalog, and one to celebrate Mother’s Day. For the former, award-winning Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda served as a guest mentor and shared his wealth of knowledge to help prepare the contestants for the high-stakes night.
Mattie Pruitt Sings Lauren Alaina’s “Those Kind Of Women”
16-year-old Mattie Pruitt had two very special women to honor on Idol tonight – her mother and stepmother. She performed a heartfelt rendition of “Those Kind of Women” by former American Idol finalist Lauren Alaina.
Lauren Alaina is preparing to welcome her first child. She released “Those Kind of Women” earlier this year as a tribute to the women who raised her and shaped her into who she is today.
Mattie Pruitt is the youngest contestant on this season of Idol, but she has consistently shown talent beyond her years throughout the competition.
As she performed, her mom and stepmother watched from the audience and wiped tears from their eyes.
