American Idol Honors Mothers And Mother Figures

Hit reality singing competition American Idol celebrated Mother’s Day on May 11th with a special segment dedicated to moms. After first performing a song from Disney’s catalog, each of the Top 7 contestants performed a song in honor of the mother figures in their lives.

The emotional performances pulled on the heartstrings of viewers and judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, all of whom are parents themselves.

By the end of the night, only five hopefuls would advance to the next round of competition.

Thunderstorm Artis Performs An Original Song For His Wife

Nashville-based musician Thunderstorm Artis first introduced viewers to his songwriting during his audition, performing his original song “Don’t Let Me Let You Go.” Since then, he has alternated between covers and his own music, highlighting his versatility as a performer.

This week, in honor of Mother’s Day, Thunderstorm shared a touching original song, “Out of the Blue,” which he wrote for his wife, Faith. The pair married in April 2020 and have since welcomed two beautiful sons. The aspiring singer’s affection for his wife shone through the lyrics, which described finding love when you least expect it.

Faith and the boys have been alongside Thunderstorm throughout the competition, and they watched eagerly from the audience for his most recent performance.

Thunderstorm’s Idol Journey Continues

The judges admitted that, with any other contestant, they would be wary of choosing an original song at this late stage of the competition. However, they agreed that Thunderstorm is a remarkably gifted songwriter and that they knew his song would be great.

The risk paid off, and fans voted Thunderstorm into the Top 5! See who else made the cut.
