In honor of Lainey Wilson soon becoming the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, let’s look back at her first performance in the circle.

It’s no secret Lainey Wilson came in hot and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Raised in a small town in Louisiana, Wilson moved to Nashville in 2014 to pursue her dream of becoming a country music singer. You may think Lainey had it easy and jumped straight to being a superstar, but did you know she tried out for American Idol seven times? Even though the singer never made it as a contestant on the show, Wilson was invited to sing for the season 21 finale in 2023.

“I tried out seven times. I took the long way around but I finally made it on American Idol,” Wilson said after the finale. “I never made it through. I never made it past the first round.”

Lainey Wilson finally started to make a name for herself when her songs were featured on the popular TV show Yellowstone in 2019.

Lainey Wilson plays Abby in the modern-day western. Abby is an aspiring country music singer, and a love interest of one of the main characters of Yellowstone, Ryan. When Wilson’s songs started to appear throughout the show, fans started looking for more. This quickly launched Lainey Wilson right into the middle of the country music scene. Since then, Lainey Wilson has earned numerous awards becoming one of the most successful women in country music history.

Lainey Wilson will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.

The reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year was asked to join the season finale of The Voice. During the finale, the 32-year-old was surprised when coach Reba McEntire joined her on the stage and told her she would be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

“I was so proud of you at the ACMs the other night,” Reba shared. “And I couldn’t be more proud to be the one that helps you continue to bridge the gap between our generations. I’d like to be the person to invite you to be an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.”
