Reba’s Co-Stars Share Their Thoughts About Working With The Country Music Icon
Pablo Castelblanco, who portrays Steve, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Hidden Remote to discuss his character, mental health, and the experience of acting alongside the singer.
He noted that his character struggles with OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder).
Castelblanco emphasized that the show does not treat OCD as a punchline but rather explores the serious challenges that come with it. He shared that,
“We all have some degree of obsessive behavior, so you kind of connect to that. One of the things that I have loved the most is just how the scripts try to portray a version of it. Steve doesn’t just deal with it, but he’s actually trying to work through it and is aware of it.”
During the interview, Steve mentioned that he was attracted to Happy’s Place primarily because he would have the opportunity to work alongside Reba. He also mentioned that he was excited to work with her talented team.
“The team that was around Reba. The format of a sitcom in front of a live audience was very appealing to me. I really wanted to do that. It was everything I dreamed of. There’s also the improv aspect of it. Melissa Pearman is a comedy genius.”
He continued on to speak about the impact of Reba and his former Alaska Daily co-star, Hilary Swank. He said:
“The one thing they share is the wealth of knowledge they are willing to share about the craft. That is something I will forever take from my career. There comes a time when someone has questions, and they are both willing to talk through stuff. They’re not precious about information.”
Many of the singer’s co-stars echoed his sentiment, including JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who also praised the experience of working with her.
“My first impression of Reba was I couldn’t believe that I’m standing in the same room as Reba McEntire! Just being around her has taught me so much that you can be a boss and really successful woman. I’m still learning from her, and she’s still the queen! She’s just always bringing it.”
