Lauren and Cam, who just celebrated their first anniversary on February 4, always knew they wanted kids, but thought they’d start their family a little further down the line. But after she got pregnant, Lauren viewed the timing as part of “God’s plan.”
Her father, J.J. Suddeth, passed away last year. She told PEOPLE she feels like her baby girl is “something good” from him in heaven:
“I do think that my dad passed away and got up in heaven and was like, ‘Hey, we got to work something out down there to send the family something good,'” she said. “And it has been such an unexpected blessing. We obviously still talk about and are dealing with the grief of my dad, but this baby has healed a lot of that for us…like it’s a little piece of my dad that will live on.”

Lauren Alaina Explains Why She Initially Thought She Was Expecting Twins
Lauren and her loved ones recently celebrated her baby girl’s upcoming arrival at a whimsical, cowgirl-themed baby shower. The singer is incredibly excited to become a mom—and relieved that she’s only expecting one baby.
During a new interview on Amazon Music’s Country Heat Weekly podcast, Lauren revealed that she originally believed she was pregnant with twins. She explained that early in her pregnancy, she got a blood test showing she had high HCG levels, which can indicate a twin pregnancy.
“I think I carry the gene for twins, and so I take this test, and where I thought that I would be at that point because I was only three days late, would have been like a certain number, and I was almost double that number when I got the test back,” she said. “I’m talking to the doctor and I’m like, ‘Am I having twins?'”

For close to four weeks, Lauren believed there was a good chance she was expecting twins. But after many scans, ultrasounds, and additional tests, she now knows she’s only carrying one baby.
She joked, “There’s only one, allegedly. I’m just trusting other people at this point.”
