Kelsea Ballerini Shows Off New Tattoo While Walking Red Carpet At The VMAs
Kelsea Ballerini had the opportunity to perform at the VMAs for the first time on Tuesday (September 12). The day was extra special, because it was also her 30th birthday!
“about to perform on the freaking @vmas on my freaking 30th birthday pinch me and tune in,” Ballerini wrote on Instagram after getting dressed up to walk the red carpet.

Ballerini attended the ceremony with her boyfriend, Outer Banks star Chase Stokes. They’ve been together since December 2022, and made their public debut at the CMT Music Awards in April.

The couple wore complementary red ensembles and walked the red carpet together. They also showcased plenty of PDA!
Fans Notice Ballerini’s New Ink In Red Carpet Photos
Ballerini’s beautiful red dress dipped low on the back and sides. This cut gave her the opportunity to showcase a brand-new tattoo for the first time.
Fans were quick to notice Ballerini’s fresh ink. Though it’s hard to see in the red carpet photos taken at a distance. A closeup photo on Ballerini’s Instagram Story shows it off better.
In that photo, you can clearly see a delicate hummingbird tattooed on Ballerini’s back. She said, “New lil hummingbird tattoo reveal. thanks @mnsantanatattoo.”

Watch Kelsea Perform Her Song “Penthouse” At The VMAs
Later in the evening, Ballerini took to the stage to perform “Penthouse.” The song is one of six tracks on her critically acclaimed EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat.
Ballerini made her performance all the more memorable by undergoing an outfit change mid-song. She started off in a long, white gown, then changed into a shorter black dress.
She illustrated how she pulled off the quick change in a video on TikTok, captioning it, “telling my future children i was once houdini.”
