Watch A Tearful Jelly Roll Tell His Mom About His Grammy Nominations

Jelly Roll couldn’t wait to tell his mom, Donna DeFord, about his Grammy nominations. He called her to share the news, and filmed a video of their conversation.

He uploaded the clip on social media a few weeks later. Through tears, Jelly Roll told his mom, “I was nominated for two Grammys.”

Donna didn’t quite understand what her son was saying. She asked, “You got me two presents?

Once she caught on, Jelly Roll explained how the Grammys are “the biggest awards show in the world.”

Writing in the caption, Jelly Roll said, “I’m getting momma a nice dress and she’s coming with me to the Grammy’s [sic].”

Jelly Roll Opened Up About That Emotional Grammys Phone Call With His Mom In A Podcast Interview

Jelly Roll was a recent guest on the New York Times’ Popcast. He spoke about his Grammy nominations, and how much it meant to him to share that news with his mom:

“…it was me getting to call a woman I’ve called from jail, a woman I’ve called homeless, a woman I’ve called addicted, a woman I’ve had to sit down and tell her I had a drug addiction, a woman I’ve had to tell her I was running from the police, a woman I’ve had to call with all this horrible news… and I got to call and say I just got nominated for two f***ing Grammys… it’s the craziest call you can make.”

You can watch Jelly Roll’s Popcast interview below. It’s preset to the part where he talks about his Grammy nominations and his mom. But the whole interview is available to watch if you simply jump to the beginning.
