Jordan McCullough Blows Everyone Away With Disney Cover On American Idol

Jordan McCullough left everyone at a loss for words following his “Disney Night” performance on American Idol on Monday (April 20th).

McCullough quickly set himself apart from the rest of the competitors on Idol‘s 24th season. He earned a standing ovation from all three judges for his audition performance of CeCe Winans’ “Goodness of God.”

You have been given an incredible gift,” judge Carrie Underwood told McCullough at the time.

The 27-year-old worship leader from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood. He’s soared through every stage of the competition since then, and notably earned a Platinum Ticket during the show’s time in Hawaii.

McCullough has continued to amaze with covers of songs such as “I Can Only Imagine” and “Somebody to Love.” But his true breakthrough moment came during “Disney Night,” when he performed “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.

From the start of the song, everyone could tell they were about to witness something special. McCullough delivered on that expectation, issuing a powerful, dynamic performance that seemed to come from the depths of his soul.

Did Jordan McCullough Advance Into Idol‘s Top 7?

After Jordan McCullough brought his ethereal Disney performance to its conclusion, he received a grand compliment from guest judge/mentor (and Idol alum) Jennifer Hudson. She threw both of her shoes onstage at the end of the song!

For those who don’t know, if Hudson throws one (or both) of her shoes onstage after a performance, that means she REALLY enjoyed what she heard. This is something she often showcased as a coach on The Voice. She threw her shoe(s) if a contestant’s performance moved her in a profound way.

So, the fact that Hudson tossed both of her shoes at McCullough shows just how much she loved his performance!

The crowd loved it too! In fact, everyone was cheering so loudly that the judges were unable to share their commentary for an extended period.

When things finally quieted a bit, Luke Bryan was so stunned, he didn’t even know what to say. He simply directed McCullough to listen to the crowd’s cheers.

Lionel Richie flew back in his chair as he exclaimed, “Real short, real sweet, Southern way of saying it…shut your mouth!

An awestruck Carrie Underwood summed up her feelings in just a few words, saying, “Jordan, that was perfect.”

As for Hudson, the speechless mentor simply gestured toward her thrown shoes and remarked, “Ain’t nothing else to be said.

But was McCullough’s performance enough to help him secure a spot in Idol‘s Top 7? The answer is…YES!

McCullough will now join the other members of the Top 7 in covering a Taylor Swift song during next Monday’s episode (April 27th). While you wait for that, check out the video below to watch his exquisite performance from “Disney Night.”
