American Idol Alum Emmy Russell Welcomes Baby Girl
Emmy Russell is finally home from the hospital after giving birth to her daughter last week.
Emmy was born into a musical family. Her grandmother was the late country music legend Loretta Lynn. One of Loretta’s twin daughters, Patsy Lynn Russell, is Emmy’s mom. Patsy and her twin sister, Peggy, sang in a country duo called The Lynns for a few years.
As a child, Emmy traveled on tour with Loretta and sang for her fans. As she grew older, Emmy formed her own identity as a singer and songwriter.
Fans fell in love with Emmy all over again when she auditioned for Season 22 of American Idol in 2024. She moved the judges with her emotional performance of an original song, titled “Skinny.”
Emmy continued to advance through the competition, at one point singing a touching rendition of Loretta’s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” She ended up finishing in fifth place.
2024 brought more excitement for Emmy as she found out she was expecting her first child with her longtime partner, Tyler Ward. The couple kept the news a secret until Emmy spilled the beans on a December episode of the Got It From My Momma podcast.
“So yeah, so I’m so excited…right out of ‘American Idol,’ I didn’t know. So that’s kind of been the journey,” Emmy said. She also shared she was expecting a baby girl.
Emmy’s daughter was born on Friday, January 31.

Emmy Russell Remained In The Hospital After Her Daughter’s Birth
Emmy ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected after her daughter was born. On Sunday (February 2), Tyler shared an update on how she was feeling.
Tyler said Emmy found herself in “a really, really tough situation” after giving birth. She ended up losing a lot of blood and felt extremely weak.
“We almost got discharged,” Emmy said when Tyler turned the camera to her. “I was feeling woozy, and I got up, and I thought I was gonna pass out. So they told me that I lost a liter of blood, and I’m gonna have to get a blood transfusion.“

Emmy and Tyler checked back in with another update on Wednesday (February 5). Emmy and her baby girl are now home from the hospital.
“I got the blood transfusion, I feel so much better,” Emmy said, though she added she was “still pretty weak today.”
Emmy said she had to get “two full bags of blood” to compensate for the 1.6 liters she lost.
Beyond her physical trials, Emmy said she’s been “having mental breakdowns” over how she’s feeling and how she hasn’t been able to care for her daughter as she hoped. She said trying to feed her daughter has been “really hard” since she hasn’t had the energy or strength. That made her feel a sense of “guilt” and made her more emotional.
Emmy shared that through it all, she’s been grateful for the loving comments and prayers people have sent her way. She also praised Tyler for being “so hands-on” in caring for their daughter while she’s been recovering.

We’re so happy to hear Emmy is back from the hospital, and we’ll keep her in our prayers.
