Singer Emmy Russell remains in the hospital due to complications following the birth of her first baby.
Emmy Russell, American Idol star and granddaughter of country legend Loretta Lynn, welcomed her first baby early Friday morning. But, according to her boyfriend, Tyler Ward, “it was a really really tough situation.”
Ward took to social media via Emmy’s account Sunday evening and shared more details about the birth via video, including the fact that Emmy was still in the hospital. Ward didn’t share specifics of labor and delivery, only saying that Emmy’s water broke Wednesday evening, and she gave birth at 2:30 a.m. on Friday. She was nearly discharged but a complication arose that kept that from happening.
Ward then turned the camera to Emmy, who was seen cuddling her adorable, dark-haired newborn, and explained what had happened.
“We almost got discharged. I was feeling woozy, and I got up, and I thought I was gonna pass out. So they told me that I lost a liter of blood, and I’m gonna have to get a blood transfusion,” Emmy shared. “So we’re gonna test again and see if I have to get more blood.”

Emmy announced that she was expecting just one month ago.
Fans were surprised to find out in December that Emmy was pregnant with her first child. But they were even more surprised a month later when she and Ward revealed that they were in the hospital awaiting the baby’s birth.
In a video shared to social media on Thursday (January 30), Ward shared clips of him and Emmy over the last several months, including pics of Emmy pregnant, a video he filmed right after her water broke, and Emmy in the hospital eating popsicles as they waited on baby.
The following day, the couple announced that their “healthy baby” had arrived with a video of the proud new dad rocking the newborn.
The newest video, posted Sunday, gives fans their first glimpse of the tiny one’s sweet face as she lays in the hospital bed next to Emmy.
