Dan + Shay Out After One Season On “The Voice”

One week ahead of The Voice‘s 25th season finale, NBC has announced the coaching lineup for Season 26 – and country coaches Dan + Shay aren’t on the roster.

The Voice‘s Season 25 finale is set to air on May 20th and 21st. First-time coaches Dan and Shay currently have the most contestants, with three, heading into tonight’s (May 13) semi-final round. Team Reba, Team Legend, and Team Chance are down to two. But, as we all know, that can all change in one night.

Even though things are looking good for Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney going into the semi-finals, they won’t be returning to the show regardless of how their team fares.

NBC revealed Monday morning that the only coach returning from the current season is Reba McEntire. Veteran coach Gwen Stefani will also be returning. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that new coaches, Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Buble and rapper Snoop Dogg will fill the other two red chairs.

While it will be the first time Buble and Snoop Dogg occupy an iconic coach’s chair, it isn’t the first time the two have appeared on the show. Snoop was a mega mentor in Season 20, and Buble was an advisor for Blake Shelton’s team during Season 3.

Dan + Shay haven’t revealed the reason for their exit from the show.

The news of Dan + Shay departing The Voice after one season was met with surprise since they have performed well this season. The “From The Ground Up” duo quickly became fan favorites due to their honest critique and genuine care for the artists they mentored.

Their departure may have to do with the success of their highly-anticipated Heartbreak On The Map Tour. After a successful 19-city run, the duo extended the tour by adding 30 more dates that will take place between July 18 and September 21.

Tune into NBC May 21 to see who takes home the title of The Voice champion.
