Country music artist Chris Young was arrested at a Nashville bar on Monday, January 22nd.

Two-time Grammy-nominated singer Chris Young was arrested at DawgHouse Saloon in Nashville’s Midtown neighborhood on January 22. The affidavit from the arrest claims that agents with the Alcoholic Beverage Commission first encountered Young while completing a compliance check at Tin Roof – the bar next door to where the arrest would later occur.

Reportedly, the country music star followed the agents to the neighboring bar where he reached out to an agent and “struck him on the shoulder” leading to a physical altercation. Ultimately, the affidavit claims that Young did not comply with orders and that two agents “had to physically detain Mr. Young to put him in handcuffs.”

Chris Young was arrested and faced charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer.

Security footage shed new light on the incident and left fans questioning the validity of the initial report.

On Tuesday (Jan 23) security footage obtained by reporter Nick Beres with Newschannel5 was released. The footage, from multiple security cameras and angles, shows the interaction between Chris Young and the TABC agent. Young can be seen reaching out toward one of the agents as he is attempting to leave, and the agent reacts by forcefully shoving Young into the bar, knocking him off his feet.

After receiving some backlash from fans telling him to “not touch a cop,” Young shared a clip of the incident to his own social media assuring viewers that he did not actually touch the agent.

The District Attorney and TABC dropped the charges against Chris Young.

Four days after the arrest was made, and not long after the surveillance video was released, Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk announced that after reviewing the evidence, all charges against Chris Young would be dismissed

Bill Ramsey, Young’s attorney, issued a statement that read, “Mr. Young and I are gratified with the DA’s decision clearing him of the charges and any wrong-doing.”

The TABC also issued a statement after the charges were dropped:

“We respect General Funk’s decision to drop the charges against Mr. Young. All law enforcement and first responders deserve to be safe while on duty. For your safety and theirs, we ask the public to not make physical contact or interfere with officers while they are working.”

Chris Young speaks about the incident for the first time and thanks fans with a surprise song release.

On Thursday (Feb 1) Chris Young posted a video to social media addressing the situation. He speaks casually to his followers and says that he is “still processing a lot through the false accusations.” He goes on:

I wanted to say first and foremost – thank you, to everybody that had my back. It meant the world to me and I had so many friends and fans reach out and just say, ‘We got you, we don’t believe you did any of this.’ So it’s really nice to see the charges get dismissed. Not something I wish anybody has to go through, ever.”

Young then announces that as a thank you to fans, he will be releasing a new song from his upcoming album titled “Double Down.” The new single will be available for streaming at midnight on February 2nd.
