On Tuesday (August 1), Carrie Underwood confirmed her return to Sunday Night Football for the 11th season. Underwood has performed the SNF opening theme since 2013.

The theme has changed a few times during Underwood’s tenure. NBC shared this year’s opener will contain “an updated rendition” of its classic theme, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” The song is based off of the Joan Jett & the Blackhearts hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

The 2023 SNF theme will feature “a concert performance interspersed with augmented reality highlights displayed across a halo scoreboard.” NBC also teased how Underwood added “a surprise new element” to the theme this year.

“Once again, the incredible Sunday Night Football team came up with a fresh, exciting visual concept that really gave us a chance to play,” Underwood said about her return to SNF. “I loved shooting the show open again this year at our home away from home, The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas [where her Reflections residency is held], and can’t wait for another season of football!”
