Jaelen Johnston recovered well from his on-stage mistake.

The Voice is heading into its final episodes of this season. Tonight, the top five artists sang their hearts out for the coveted winning spot, which comes with a cash prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.

The five who competed tonight are Renzo (Team Legend), Lucia Flores-Wiseman (Team Adam), Jadyn Cree (Team Bublé), Jaelen Johnston (Team Kelsea), and Adam David (Team Bublé).

The country singer Jaelen Johnston performed “What Was I Thinkin'” by Dierks Bentley.

The young country singer felt the pressure of the moment and teared up during his pre-performance interview, sharing that he wanted to win The Voice for his family.

His nerves got the best of him early in the performance when he forgot the words. You could see his frustration as he called for the band to stop the set, but quickly realized he couldn’t stop and had to recover.

He managed to bounce back remarkably, giving his all for the rest of the song. He danced around the stage and brought his high energy to the Bentley hit.

After his performance, Kelsea praised the singer for recovering well, saying, “The way that you recover is the only thing that matters.”

She insisted that his recovery showed what he was really made of, saying that his recovery was “the most impressive part.”

Jaelen Johnston’s Journey On The Voice

After the initial blind rounds, the contestants move directly into the Battle rounds. During these rounds, two contestants from the same team perform a duet of the same song together. Based on their duet performance, the contestants’ coach selects the best performer to advance to the Knockout rounds.

Jaelen entered the battle rounds alongside Hailey Wright, and the two performed “Neon Moon” by Brooks & Dunn. Their coach, Kelsea Ballerini, ultimately chose Jaelen but quickly saved Hailey, sending both of them to the knockout rounds.

The Voice does not always have a Playoff round, but this year they did as they needed to eliminate a few more singer prior to their live rounds. Jaelen wowed with his rendition of Tim McGraw’s “If You’re Reading This.”

He was sent home but was quickly saved by the voice’s new “Super Save.” America agreed and voted him through to the finale.
