LeAnn Rimes Explains Why She Never Had Children Of Her Own

LeAnn Rimes is setting the record straight on the real reason she never had children.

Last week, Rimes appeared on Today for a special segment that brought together a group of women in their 40s to talk about how they’ve navigated life so far.

During the conversation, the topic of kids came up, especially the idea of women choosing not to have them. Rimes shared her own story and why she decided not to have kids of her own.

It’s a topic the “Blue” singer hasn’t really talked about before, even though she says people have made their own assumptions for years. In reality, she feels it doesn’t need much explanation because, to her, it’s not as complicated as others make it out to be.

She became a stepmom to her husband Eddie Cibrian’s two sons, Mason and Jake, when they married in 2011. The boys were 8 and 4 at the time, and Rimes has said that was enough for her.

“I have two stepsons that are now 22 and 18. I’m kind of satisfied with what we have going on,” she admitted.

“People always assumed, ‘She must not be able to have kids because she’s not having kids,’” she continued. “I’m like, ‘That has nothing to do with that.’”

She also spoke about how others’ judgments of her choice have made her feel at times. The singer says she shouldn’t have to explain or justify her decision.

“I just felt so strange that there had to be a reason other than I don’t want kids,” Rimes said. “That should be reason enough. I didn’t need anything to satisfy my own ego of ‘This is my kid that I birthed or came from me.’ It just didn’t cross my mind. I was really happy raising his children and they’re such great kids.”

Rimes and her husband celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary at the end of last month with a trip to Cabo. In an Instagram post, she shared that the year had been “filled with tears and worry” due to “heart-wrenching things happening at home with family,” but she credited him for always standing by her side through the hard times.

LeAnn Rimes Cancels Shows Due To “Severe Illness”

Rimes has also been dealing with an illness recently. Her scheduled shows in the Pacific Northwest last week had to be postponed.

The two-time Grammy winner shared the unfortunate news in an Instagram Story, along with updated dates for when the concerts will be rescheduled.

“Due to severe illness, I am unable to travel & perform this week,” she wrote. “I’m sorry to share that the upcoming shows in Spokane and Seattle will be rescheduled.”

“I am truly heartbroken to have to reschedule,” she added. “I am so very grateful for your kindness, and continued support as I recover. I look forward to being back on stage and see you very soon.”

Rimes did not specify what illness she was recovering from.
