Two more Season 23 hopefuls were eliminated from American Idol during Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night on Sunday.
Sunday night’s live Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night featured the Top 14 contestants delivering rock classics with some help from mentor James Taylor. For the first time this season, American Idol aired live coast to coast, meaning all time zones would be able to watch the show and vote simultaneously.
The episode was kicked off by judge Carrie Underwood, who took the stage to perform “Alone,” a hit song from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Heart.
Carrie’s performance was followed by an incredible lineup of classic covers ranging from Journey and Elvis Presley to Whitney Houston and Elton John. For the second week, America’s votes determined the fate of the singers. The voting window opened at the beginning of the show and closed during the final commercial break, meaning America had less than two hours to vote for who they wanted to advance to the Top 12.
At the end of the episode, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that more than 19 million votes had been cast. He then shared that the following contestants were safe:
Canaan James Hill
Gabby Samone
Mattie Pruitt
Thunderstorm Artis
Slater Nalley
Breanna Nix
John Foster
Filo
Kolbi Jordan
Josh King
Jamal Roberts
Che Chesterman
Amanda Barise and Desmond Roberts were sadly eliminated. Both Amanda and Desmond were at risk of elimination last week when the Top 20 were reduced to the Top 14. They were saved by the judges’ wildcard option along with Che Chesterman and Josh King.

Monday night, the remaining contestants will perform Iconic Idol Moments.
The Top 12 will take the stage again on Monday (April 28) to perform songs associated with iconic moments from Idol seasons past. Season 3 winner Fantasia will be on hand to mentor the remaining hopefuls and perform.
Once again, America will only have two hours to vote, and the Top 10 will be revealed at the end of the episode.
