Jerry Jones, Owner Of The Dallas Cowboys, Is In The News Today For An Interesting Reason

Apparently, to the surprise of Cowboy fans, Jones let go of head coach Mike McCarthy. Some fans are upset as McCarthy had just turned down a request to be the coach of the Chicago Bears.

In other news, Jerry Jones was trending last week due to a surprise cameo appearance on the hit show Landman. In Season 1, Episode 9, Jones played himself, visiting his dear friend Monty Miller, portrayed by Jon Hamm, in the hospital.

The moment is heartwarming, as Jones gives a monologue about how it is important to always put family first. See a short snippet from his scene below.

“I’m not saying I’ve done anything right, but I made my mind up a long time ago that I was gonna work with my kids,” Jones continues on to say, “They’re involved in everything. They’re involved in my leasing, oil and gas, real estate. So when I got the Cowboys, I got it so that we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them, but the one that got the most out of it was me. I’m pretty proud of them Cowboys. I’m pretty proud of the stuff we’ve done in oil and gas. It pales in comparison to how proud I am to have lived my life working with my kids.”

In the show, this was devastating for Miller as his business partners surrounded him, but sadly, his daughters did not come to visit him even though he had his fifth heart attack.

The scene took a clear stance on the importance of putting family first over business or success.

Is This True In Real Life For Jerry Jones?

This was, however, interesting because, in an interview with The Athletic that dropped the same day as the episode, Jones seemingly said the opposite about his business motives, saying that he bought the Dallas Cowboys for himself, not his kids.

When asked if he would finally relinquish the GM title, he said:

“I bought the team, I think the first thing to come out of my mouth … somebody asked, ‘Did you buy this for your kids?’ I said, ‘Hell no. I bought it for me.’ And I didn’t buy an investment. I bought an occupation, and I bought something I was going to do. I was 46 (years old). I bought something I was going to do for the rest of my life. That’s what I’m doing. So, no. The facts are, since I have to decide where the money is spent, then you might as well cut all of the bull—- out. That’s who’s making the call anyways.”

Whether his monologue was true or incredible acting, it was a poignant message that moved many.
