Scotty McCreery Releases New Song He “Always Wanted To Write”

Scotty McCreery started crafting a new album in 2023. Fans got the chance to hear the first piece of that new album when McCreery released the single “Cab In a Solo” in August.

McCreery wrote the song with some friends in the mountains of his home state, North Carolina. He said it “turned out to be one of [his] favorites [he’s] ever written.”

“Cab In a Solo” ranked as the #1 most-added song at radio during its release week. The song eventually reached the 20th spot on the U.S. Country Airplay chart.

Now, McCreery hopes to follow up on the song’s success with the release of a new single.

The New Song, “Can’t Pass The Bar,” Has Serious 90s Country Vibes

McCreery often reflects his influences in his music. You hear those influences in songs such as “Damn Strait,” “It Matters to Her,” and “Five More Minutes.”

As a child of the 1990s, McCreery grew up on 90s country music. The decade’s sound clearly influenced his newest single, “Can’t Pass the Bar.”

McCreery confirmed in a video that the sound of 90s country “barn-burning songs” inspired him to write “Can’t Pass the Bar.” He cited John Michael Montgomery‘s “Sold” and Garth Brooks‘ “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)” as big sources of inspiration.

Wrote a song I’ve always wanted to write, It’s called Cant Pass The Bar,” McCreery said.

“Can’t Pass the Bar” dropped on Friday (January 12). The fast-paced tune plays on words, as it speaks about a group of country folks who “can’t pass the bar.

The chorus goes:

When the long weeks’ pay checks are cashed
Where we gonna spend it, buddy, you ain’t gotta ask
When the neon lights are kickin’ on
All of us are headin’ to a home away from home
We don’t look like much but we’re pretty damn smart
For some good ol’ boys that can’t pass the bar.”

McCreery released an official lyric video for “Can’t Pass the Bar,” which you can enjoy below. We can already see ourselves line dancing to this one!
