Riley Keough Reveals Her One-Year-Old Daughter’s Name After Welcoming Her In Secret In 2022

Riley Keough and her husband, Ben Smith-Peterson, welcomed a daughter in August 2022. But they kept her birth a secret until earlier this year.

The public first learned about the couple’s daughter when Ben gave a speech at his mother-in-law Lisa Marie Presley‘s memorial service in January. He read a note from Riley, which said:

I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart.”

Lisa Marie had four children. She shared Riley and Benjamin with Danny Keough, and twins Harper and Finley with Michael Lockwood.

Sadly, Benjamin died in 2020 at the age of 27.

How Elvis Inspired His Great-Granddaughter’s First Name

Riley opened up about her now one-year-old daughter for the first time in an interview with Vanity Fair. She finally revealed her daughter’s name, which shares two meaningful connections to her family.

For starters, the little girl’s first name was inspired by her great-grandfather, Elvis. Riley and Ben named her “Tupelo” after the city where Elvis was born in Mississippi.

It’s funny because we picked her name before the Elvis movie,” Keough said, speaking about the Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis film. “I was like, ‘This is great because it’s not really a well-known word or name in relation to my family—it’s not like Memphis or something.’ Then when the Elvis movie came out, it was like, Tupelo this and Tupelo that. I was like, ‘Oh, no.’ But it’s fine.

The couple chose the name “Storm” for their daughter’s middle name. Riley’s brother, Benjamin, also had the middle name “Storm.” His full name was Benjamin Storm Keough.

Riley Keough & Her Husband Welcomed Their Daughter Via Surrogate

The Daisy Jones & The Six star also revealed that she and Ben welcomed Tupelo via surrogate. Riley suffers from Lyme disease, and although she can carry a child, she felt it was best for her health if she did not.

“I think it’s a very cool, selfless, and incredible act that these women do to help other people,” she said. “I can carry children, but it felt like the best choice for what I had going on physically with the autoimmune stuff.”

Riley has not posted any photos of Tupelo on social media. But she did offer some insight into what her daughter looks like, saying, “She’s literally like someone shrunk my husband and that’s our baby.”

The reveal of Tupelo’s name comes as Riley was recently named as the owner of Graceland and the sole trustee of her mother Lisa Marie’s estate. Watch a report about that below.
