Riley Green Gets Booed By Fans For A Certain Song Lyric
Riley Green ended up changing a lyric in one of his songs after the crowd made it clear they weren’t happy with the original.
On Saturday, April 18, Green performed at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to kick off the opening weekend of his Cowboy As It Gets Tour.
During his time on stage, he made sure to pull out all the stops to impress the thousands of people in attendance. For example, he brought out a couple of surprise guests, such as Carly Pearce and Jamey Johnson.
Green and Johnson teamed up for a duet of the classic “Where Corn Don’t Grow” and also performed Johnson’s “In Color.” Later, when Pearce made her appearance, she and Green performed their latest release, “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay.”
But, arguably, one of the most memorable moments from Green’s Nashville show came when he performed his own track “Hell of a Way to Go,”… and that’s because it stirred up a bit of controversy between him and the audience.
If you’re familiar with the 2022 track, you know it includes the lyric “Watchin’ Alabama whoop up on Tennessee.”
Needless to say, this didn’t sit well with the Tennessee crowd, and they weren’t willing to let it slide. Right after Green sang the line, hundreds of audience members began booing the country star.
Green seemed amused by the reaction and tried to clear the air.
“We are not Alabama fans, so y’all can relax,” he said, referring to himself and singer Drake White, who was also on stage.
He then quipped, “We’re Auburn fans.”
Riley Green Gives Fans What They Want And Changes The Lyrics
Green knew that, all jokes aside, he wanted to give the crowd what they came for. After enough playful teasing, he decided to do something he doesn’t normally do and changed the song lyrics.
“I’ve only done this one other time, but I’m gonna do it tonight because y’all are a great crowd,” he reasoned. “If y’all promise not to video it, I’ll change the lyrics one time.”
Green then redid the line and sang, “Alabama’s getting the hell kicked out of them by Tennessee.”
And just like that, Green was back on his Tennessee fans’ good side.
Despite Green asking everyone not to film the moment, it still made its way online, though. Hopefully, it doesn’t haunt him too much!
