Looks like there’s another country star in the McGraw family!
In fact, Tim McGraw’s nephew, Timothy Wayne, recently achieved a major milestone in his career — signing his first-ever record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville.
Discussing his record deal, Wayne shared, “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to make and record music with UMG Nashville. This has been a dream of mine, and I am working hard on music that I can’t wait to share with everyone.”
In April, it was also announced that Wayne would be joining his uncle, Tim McGraw, during the summer on his Standing Room Only Tour. And that exciting time has now come!

On Wednesday, June 19, Tim McGraw posted a heartwarming video to his social media pages of him and his nephew singing Keith Whitley’s 1988 “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
In the video, what appears to be the night before his tour debut, Wayne is shown hanging out in a backstage lounge room with his uncle. McGraw asks him if he’s familiar with the Whitley classic, and Wayne not only proves that he knows the song but also delivers a pretty impressive rendition.
Wayne takes over the chorus, singing:
“Don’t close your eyes /
Let it be me /
Don’t pretend it’s him /
In some fantasy /
Darling, just once let yesterday go /
And you’ll find more love /
Than you’ve ever known /
Just hold me tight /
When you love me tonight /
And don’t close your eyes.”
Then McGraw himself took over the next verse and chorus, before giving the ending lines back to Wayne.
We are sure this moment pumped Wayne up and got him excited for the next few days he is scheduled to be on tour. Wayne is one of the opening acts for McGraw’s tour and will perform during the dates below.
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – June 20
- Baltimore, Maryland – June 21
- Raleigh, North Carolina – June 22
- Phoenix, Arizona – June 27

Tim McGraw captioned his recent post:
“He may be my nephew…but he’s the real deal!! Just listen to him sing the hell outta this song. Excited to have Timothy Wayne open up this last run of shows!”
Wayne commented on the post, expressing how blessed he is to be involved, saying he will “give it my all and then some!”
Some fans in the comments even joked that Wayne sang the song better than “I Called Mama” singer himself.
“I’m sorry and please don’t be mad but I think your nephew sang that song better than you lol.”
“Well done! You sang it better than your uncle! (Sorry, Tim!)”
“Wow, that’s all I can say. Lol. Think your nephew could definitely follow in your footsteps.”
At the end of the video, Wayne says that he loves Keith Whitley before saying to McGraw, who had a big smile on his face, “Clan!” and then specifying, “McGraw clan!”
One thing’s for sure, talent definitely runs in the family!
