After 41 years, television personality Pat Sajak has stepped down as host of Wheel of Fortune.
The legendary game show host shared the news of his retirement in a statement last year.
“Well, the time has come…It’s been a wonderful ride…Many thanks to you all.”
During his final appearance on the popular game show a few days ago, Sajak delivered a heartfelt speech, thanking fans for the “incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade.”
Pat Sajak’s Time As Host On Wheel Of Fortune
Pat Sajak joined Wheel of Fortune in 1981 as the emcee for the daytime edition and took on the nighttime hosting duties in 1983.
He received 19 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host and won three times (1993, 1997, 1998). In 2011, Sajak also earned a Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 1994, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fans Speculate Who Will Replace Sajak As Host
Following Sajak’s announcement of his retirement, fans swiftly began speculating about potential replacements. One name quickly emerged at the top — Ryan Seacrest.
And fans were right! On June 27, 2023, the show announced that Seacrest would be the new host.

With a highly successful career under his belt already, Seacrest will take over the reins and make his debut as host in the fall of 2024.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Seacrest expressed his excitement about the opportunity, saying, “I think I have so much adrenaline rushing through my body. Excitement is the word because it’s such a phenomenal show. I grew up watching the show, and I can’t wait to take over after the legendary Pat Sajak.”
Ryan Seacrest’s Tribute To Pat Sajak
Ryan Seacrest, who will take over as the host of Wheel of Fortune next season, recently shared a heartfelt message on his social media pages in honor of Pat Sajak’s 41 years on the show. He wrote:
“Pat, congratulations on an incredible run with Wheel of Fortune! Your dedication, charm, and wit have made the show a beloved part of American television for decades. Your partnership with Vanna White has been nothing short of iconic, and together, you’ve created countless wonderful memories for viewers. You’ve set the standard for hosts everywhere, and this marks the end of an era. Best wishes for all your future endeavors!”
Alongside the sweet note, Seacrest shared a photo of himself, Sajak, and Vanna White, along with a video clip of the three together on set.
