For a while now, Miranda Lambert has been teasing the upcoming release of a new album. Speaking to Rolling Stone in June, the singer said the record was influenced by her recent marriage to NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin and the time she has spent in the Big Apple:
“I have been spending time in New York and I got married and I’m happy, and working with [producer] Jay [Joyce], that all brought a really new phase and sound for Miranda Lambert.”
When asked exactly what that meant, Lambert said it meant the album has “a little rock vibe to it.”
That rock vibe is something we’ve heard in many of Lambert’s past tracks, including fiery hits such as “Kerosene” and “Gunpowder and Lead.” It’s also something we heard in her CMA Fest performance of one of her new songs, titled “Locomotive.”
But when Lambert finally shared the title of her first single off of the new record, it wasn’t “Locomotive” that she named. Instead, she revealed that the album’s first single would be a song titled “It All Comes Out in the Wash.”
When interviewed by Billboard about the song prior to its release, Lambert described it as such:
“I think it was just kind of classic me. I think that it’s got some sarcasm to it, but it’s very honest.” She also went on to say that the song is, “fun and lighthearted.”
As for what inspired the song, Lambert said she had the title in mind for some time when she took it to her co-writers, Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, and Liz Rose:
“I walked in and I was like, ‘You know what? Everything’s fine. No matter what happens, it all comes out in the wash,’ which is something my mom and grandma always would say — and it’s true. Everything finds a resolve, and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter.”
Fans finally got the chance to hear how Lambert and her co-writers’ vision came to life when “It All Comes Out in the Wash” was released on Thursday (July 18). Lambert shared the official audio to her YouTube channel, which you can listen to below.
Wait, don’t leave yet, because that’s not all…
Fans knew days in advance that Lambert was dropping “It All Comes Out in the Wash,” so its release was not a surprise. But then Lambert teased that she was sharing something else on the same day, though remained tight-lipped about what that something else would be.
We finally got our answer…Lambert decided to release the official audio clip for “Locomotive” as well. If y’all remember, that’s the same song she debuted at CMA Fest back in June, and fans loved it.
“And…I told y’all I had something else up my sleeve… “Locomotive” is out now too. Couldn’t wait any longer for y’all to have it,” Lambert wrote in the caption to her Instagram post announcing the release of both songs.
