Luke Combs shares a first glimpse of the studio recording for “The Man He Sees In Me”
In addition to being one of the biggest stars in modern country music, Luke Combs has the important job of being the father to two young boys. He and his wife Nicole welcomed their second son, Beau Lee, in August 2023, joining their older son, Tex Lawrence.
As Luke leans into this new season of life – some might call it his fatherhood era – he is finding inspiration for new music. On Wednesday (March 13), Luke shared a sneak peek at the studio recording of “The Man He Sees In Me,” a touching song about living up to your child’s expectations.
Along with the recording, he asked his followers:
“Is this heading in the right direction y’all?”

Luke Combs previously shared “The Man He Sees In Me” in an acoustic video
In January, the award-winning musician posted a casual home video where he first shared the new song written with Nashville songwriter and fellow dad, Josh Phillips.
Sitting on the floor while one of his sons naps and the other coos in the background, Luke plays the full, acoustic version of “The Man He Sees In Me.” Response to the song was immediate and overwhelmingly positive, so it is not surprising that it has made its way to the recording studio.

It has not yet been shared if/when the song will be officially released.
Full Lyrics to “The Man He Sees In Me”
He’s Spider-Man in Walmart boots
And a camouflage hat
With a baby blue Zebco
That gets hung up every cast
He thinks he’s learning fishing
From the man that taught Bill Dance
And I think as I untangle it and put it in his hands
I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon
And I’ve never scared a monster out the closet in his room
Someday between him leaving home and driving on my knee
Maybe I’ll finally be, the man he sees in me
He waves his blanket like a checkered flag
Pulling off of the interstate
With a happy meal cup held high
Like I won the big race
When we get inside, his mind is blown
When I untie his shoes
And he smiles and says, “Daddy, there ain’t nothing you can’t do”
I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon
And I never scared a monster out the closet in his room
Someday between him leaving home and driving on my knee
Maybe I’ll finally be
The man he sees in me
I know he’s gonna find out that I didn’t hang the moon
There never was a monster in the closet of his room
Someday when he’s driving home with his son on his knee
I hope he’s trying to be the man he sees in me
The man he sees in me
