Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen were honored as 2023 BMI Songwriters of the Year.

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) presented the 2023 BMI Country Awards last night (Nov 7) in Nashville, TN. The 71st annual event celebrated the songwriters and music publishers behind the 50 most-performed songs in country music over the past year.

Among the top honorees were Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen who tied for the sought-after BMI Songwriter of the Year award. Each of these two country music powerhouses co-wrote four of BMI’s most-performed songs in country music this year.

Luke Combs co-wrote his three consecutive #1 singles, “Doin’ This,” “Going, Going, Gone,” “The Kind of Love We Make,” as well as “Out in the Middle,” which was recorded and released by Zac Brown Band.

Morgan Wallen was the co-writer for Keith Urban’s “Brown Eyes Baby,” Corey Kent’s breakout hit “Wild as Her,” as well as his chart-topping songs, “Thought You Should Know” and “You Proof.”

The award-winning songwriters swapped songs to celebrate the achievement.

During the ceremony, Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen took the stage together for an acoustic performance to commemorate the night. Unexpectedly, the two traded songs as a meaningful way to honor one another.

Combs performed “Thought You Should Know” and Wallen performed “Going, Going, Gone.”

Radio broadcaster and television host, Storme Warren, shared a video to social media highlighting the special moment. See the video below!
