Luke Combs plays new song “Plant A Seed” in a home video shared to social media.

Luke Combs is leaning into dad life, as he and his wife Nicole Hocking welcomed their second son in August of 2023. Over the weekend, Luke shared an acoustic home video playing a touching song about fatherhood.

The unreleased song, titled “Plant A Seed,” was written by Nashville songwriters Wyatt McCubbin, Rob Snyder, and Jeff Hyde. Luke shared in the caption of the video:

“Last night it was in my head and I couldn’t sleep so I got up and messed around with it for a few hours. Been singing it to myself all morning and as I watched the boys while Nicole got a shower in I recorded this. Hope y’all like it and sorry for all the dad songs but that’s where I’m at these days and I couldn’t be happier about it.”

In the video, Luke sits on the floor of his living room with the family dog perched on the messy couch in the background, and Luke’s young son can be heard making noises as his dad sings. The unpolished nature of the video reflects the authenticity that Luke’s fans have come to know and love.

“Plant A Seed” reflects upon how quickly time passes.

The new song is perfectly fitting for Luke, who is undoubtedly watching how quickly his two young sons are growing up before his eyes. The lyrics of the ballad imply the wisdom of an older individual being shared with someone young, and encouraging them to appreciate the time they are given because it moves so fast.

A portion of the lyrics to “Plant A Seed” are as follows:

Remember it’s about the journey /

Don’t fill your days with worry /

Sure them youngins drive you crazy, but you’ll miss them when they’re grown.

Oh, time ain’t always your friend /

It starts slow and gets faster towards the end /

So fill up your heart with love /

And pass it on before you go /

Thank the man upstairs that you were there to plant a seed and watch it grow.
