Lainey Wilson Shares Her Reaction On Social Media After Waking Up To Two CMA Award Wins

The 2023 CMA Awards are tonight (November 8). Traditionally, the CMA reveals the winners of Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year before the ceremony.

This year, the CMA shared these early award winners on Good Morning America. The CMA also shared posts on social media announcing the winners.

It turns out that HARDY and Lainey Wilson‘s collaboration “wait in the truck” won both awards!

Wilson woke up to the news she won two CMA Awards. She reacted to the wins in separate posts on her Instagram Story.

“Well y’all, this is some exciting news to wake up to,” Lainey wrote on a slide about her and HARDY’s Musical Event of the Year win.

On a slide about their Music Video of the Year win, Lainey said, “It’s meant a lot to me to be on this ride with ya brother @hardy. Thank you @cma!

Lainey Has The Potential To Win More Trophies At The CMA Awards Tonight

Wilson was nominated for a total of nine awards at the 2023 CMA Awards. She earned more nominations than any other artist this year.

The “Watermelon Moonshine” singer also made history as one of only four artists to ever earn nine or more nominations in a single year. Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, and Miranda Lambert all did so in the past.

Wilson’s history-making nominations are noteworthy for another reason. This is only her second year ever being nominated at the CMA Awards. She also had the most nominations of any artist in 2022, with a total of six. She won the awards for New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Wilson stands the chance to win five more trophies at tonight’s ceremony. The reason we say five instead of seven is because Wilson was nominated twice in the Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year categories.

Her solo single “Heart Like a Truck” and her “wait in the truck” collaboration with HARDY are both nominated for Single of the Year. Wilson’s “Save Me” collaboration with Jelly Roll was nominated for Musical Event of the Year along with “wait in the truck.”

Wilson is also nominated for:

  • Entertainer of the Year
  • Female Vocalist of the Year
  • Album of the Year for Bell Bottom Country
  • Song of the Year for “Heart Like a Truck”

Best of luck to Wilson and all of the other nominees at this year’s CMA Awards. And congratulations to her and HARDY on the two wins they already earned!
