Kevin Costner says he will not let his divorce harden his heart
Academy-award-winning actor Kevin Costner and his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner finalized their high-profile divorce earlier this year after nearly 20 years of marriage. Even though the split was undoubtedly difficult, the 69-year-old has not ruled out the possibility of love in the future.
In a new cover story for PEOPLE, Costner says that he thinks “everybody would like to be in love.” He adds:
“There’s such a good feeling that’s associated with that. It may have to be defined in a different way, but yeah, I love the idea of that possibility.”
Costner says that focusing on his kids helped him endure the last year
The former couple share three children: Cayden (17), Hayes (15), and Grace (14). Reflecting on navigating through parenthood during and after the split, Costner shared:
“You just do it. You just keep talking, you keep coaching [the kids], you keep interested in what they’re interested in… I had to.”
As a father of seven, his role as a father plays a large part in Costner’s life. In addition to his kids with Baumgarten, he has four adult children from previous relationships: Annie (40), Lily (37), Joe (36), and Liam (27).
“I’m not going to let anything harden my heart,” concluded Costner.

Kevin Costner shuts down rumors of a romance with Jewel
Rumors began circulating that Costner was dating pop star Jewel when photos of the pair together at a charity tennis event in the Virgin Islands surfaced in December 2023. An unnamed source told TMZ that their pair were “flirty” during the event.
However, Costner addressed the rumors during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show. When Stern asked the actor about the suspected romance, he responded:
“No, Jewel and I are friends. We’ve never gone out ever. She’s special, and I don’t want, I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship…She’s special to me…It just has never happened for us. She’s everything you might think, but it just hasn’t happened.”
