Kelly Clarkson Addresses Her Weight Loss – Shares The Routines She’s Followed To “Drop Weight” In Recent Months
When Kelly Clarkson returned with the fifth season of The Kelly Clarkson Show in the fall, fans were quick to notice her slimmer figure. She didn’t say much about the topic, until she recently spoke with PEOPLE in an exclusive story. TODAY cites some quotes from that article in a report of its own.
Clarkson moved her namesake talk show from Los Angeles to New York City for its fifth season. Her new life in the Big Apple means she walks a lot more than she used to, which she says helped contribute to her weight loss.
She also spoke about some other parts of her wellness regime, saying, “I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”
What Diet Is Clarkson Following To Lose Weight?
Clarkson also shared what diet she’s following at the moment. She said she’s trying to keep things “a healthy mix” and is listening to her doctor’s recommendations.
“I eat a healthy mix,” she said. “I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn’t. And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat…”
But Clarkson maintains balance, and also enjoys “magical” foods like frozen yogurt.

Kelly Clarkson Previously Opened Up About Weight Loss Six Years Ago
Back in 2018, Clarkson altered her diet to help with thyroid and autoimmune issues. She lost 37 pounds then.
Clarkson told Extra at the time:
“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book, it’s called ‘The Plant Paradox (by Steven R. Gundry, MD).’ It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic…Literally, I haven’t worked out at all!”
She added, “I’m not working out! I think people think I’m working out and I’m like, ‘Don’t think I’m going to come play some sport!‘”
Now, six years later, Clarkson still isn’t following any extreme workout regime. But her frequent walks in NYC have helped her “drop weight” within recent months.
“Walking in the city is quite the workout,” Clarkson remarked.
