Team Reba’s Josh Sanders Has Become A Fan-Favorite On The Voice
Josh Sanders moved the Voice coaches to tears when he performed a hit Thomas Rhett song during the first live show of Season 25.
Sanders first caught the coaches’ attention during his blind audition. The pastor and father of five performed “Whiskey On You” by Nate Smith. Reba McEntire called him a “perfect country singer,” and Sanders ultimately chose her as his coach.
From there, Sanders won his battle performance over Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours.” He also won his knockout round after singing “Wild as Her” by Corey Kent.
Then, Sanders competed in the playoffs. He delivered an impressive cover of “Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers. McEntire chose him, Asher HaVon, and L. Rodgers as the three contestants she wanted to take into the live shows.
Josh Sanders Elicts Emotional Response From Voice Coaches After Covering A Thomas Rhett Song
During the first live show on Monday (May 6), Sanders delivered a heartfelt cover of Thomas Rhett’s 2023 single, “Angels (Don’t Always Have Wings).”
Rhett co-wrote the song with Josh Thompson, Teddy Swims, and Julian Bunetta as an ode to his wife, Lauren Akins. It includes lyrics such as, “Don’t know why you were patient and wasted good savin’ on me. Maybe angels don’t always have wings.”
Listeners sent the song to the #1 spot on the Country Airplay chart.
Sanders leaned into the song’s emotions when he performed during the Voice live shows. His wife, Kendra, and their children watched in the audience, and he sang right to them.
Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney said he felt like he was “gonna cry” after watching Sanders’ performance. He appeared teary-eyed as he said:
“That was unbelievable man. I’m super happy for you, that you got to have that moment. You should be really proud...”
Dan Smyers’ eyes also appeared to be glistening as he listened to Mooney praise Sanders’ performance.
Then, Reba McEntire shared her thoughts about what she just witnessed. She also had tears in her eyes when she complimented Sanders.
“Behind every great man, there’s a good woman too,” an emotional McEntire said toward Sanders’ wife. “Oh my gosh, that touched my heart so much.”
She told Sanders what makes him “so special” is the fact he can “sell a song with [his] heart” like he did in that moment.
