Jennifer Hudson Was Moved By The Way Her Son Honored Her And Her Late Mother
“Y’all, this is my baby,” declared a proud and tearful Jennifer Hudson as she hugged her 16-year-old son, David.
During the May 7 broadcast of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the EGOT winner — who rose to fame despite being eliminated from Season 3 of American Idol over two decades ago — was given a very special surprise.
Walking out onto the stage was David Otunga Jr., the son of Jennifer and her ex-husband, WWE wrestler David Otunga.
In his hand was a pound cake, but it was much more than just a simple dessert.
“This is your mom’s special recipe,” David told her. “I made it for Mother’s Day. I know It’s special to you.”
With tears flowing down her face, she then said this cake was a “family tradition,” adding, “My mother always made this pound cake.”
Back in 2008, Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, was murdered with Jennifer’s brother, Jason Hudson; and her nephew, Julian King.
Arrested and charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, as well as felony Home Invasion, was William Balfour, who had previously been married to Jennifer’s elder sister, Julia.
Balfour was convicted of the murder of all three of Hudson’s deceased family members, sentenced in 2012 with three life sentences plus 120 years.
On Mother’s Day this year, May 10, there will have been 18 Mother’s Days that have gone by that Jennifer Hudson has not been able to share with her mother.
