American Idol Contestant John Foster Calls Out Incorrect Information He’s Seen About Himself On Social Media
John Foster wants to set the record straight regarding some false information that’s been spreading about him online.
Foster is currently competing on Season 23 of American Idol. In addition to being a talented musician, he’s an aspiring oncologist.
Foster has established himself as a fan-favorite contestant during his time on Idol. He’s performed covers of timeless country songs such as “Goodbye Time,” “I Told You So,” “Neon Moon,” and “Callin’ Baton Rouge.”
But his most impactful performance came during Idol’s “Songs of Faith” special on Easter Sunday. He performed an original song he wrote in tribute to two of his close friends who were killed in a car accident. The heartbreaking performance went viral and touched millions of people.
Foster has since advanced into Idol‘s Top 3, and will compete during the season finale on May 18. With his ever-growing popularity, Foster has been the subject of dozens of articles and social media posts. But not all of these posts are accurate.
On April 30, Foster went to his official Facebook page to correct some false facts he read about himself online. He said:
“For the sake of all of my family (followers) getting to know me better, I’d like to clear up some misinformation that has been spreading on Facebook.”
For starters, Foster corrected false reports that he’s 24 years old. He’s only 18!
He also addressed reports that he was born in Benton, Kentucky. Foster is actually from Addis, Louisiana, and he’s never even been to Kentucky!
Is John Foster Related To Dwight Yoakam?
The biggest rumor Foster had to quell was that he’s related to country music superstar Dwight Yoakam. It’s understandable why this rumor took off, as Idol fans have compared Foster to the “Guitars, Cadillacs” singer throughout the season.
Judge Carrie Underwood even made the comparison. After watching Foster sing “Jailhouse Rock,” she said he reminded her of a young Yoakam.

But despite the likeness, Foster isn’t related to Yoakam. He also cleared up false reports that he signed a record deal with Yoakam through Sugar Hill Records.
Ending his post, Foster said:
“If you see something about me that’s not from my page (with the blue checkmark), there’s a chance that it may not be true! I hope this helps y’all to know me better as a person now that y’all know more about my music.”
