Happy’s Place Has Been Renewed For A Third Season

Get ready for more shenanigans from your favorite Happy’s Place characters!

The news that the show was renewed for Season 3 came earlier this year, well before Season 2 had even wrapped up. But considering how successful the sitcom has been, it’s no surprise fans will get to see it return.

Happy’s Place has been a huge hit for NBC since its premiere in October 2024. The pilot episode reached more than 10 million viewers across all platforms after its debut. Soon after, it became the most-watched comedy series to ever launch on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock.

The main cast quickly won over viewers’ hearts, and their storylines keep getting deeper as the show goes on.

There’s Reba McEntire’s character Bobbie, who is trying to figure out how to run her late father’s bar, Happy’s Place, after inheriting it. On top of that, she’s also learning how to build a bond with a half-sister she never knew existed (played by Belissa Escobedo).

The rest of the recurring cast includes Bobbie’s best friend and bartender, Gabby (Melissa Peterman); the head chef of Happy’s Place, Emmett (Rex Linn); the bar’s accountant, Steve (Pablo Castelblanco); and waiter Dakota (Tokala Black Elk).

Happy’s Place Season 2 Recap

Before looking ahead to what might unfold in Season 3, let’s take a quick look back at where Happy’s Place left off in its Season 2 finale:

The one-hour finale episode saw Bobbie and Isabella seeing a couple’s therapist, which brought up some long-buried feelings from Bobbie. This included her resentment toward her father for his affair and for keeping Isabella a secret from her for so many years.

Bobbie also came to terms with the fact that she still had feelings for Emmett. Originally, she broke things off with him when she found out he knew about her father’s secret the entire time. With Isabella’s encouragement to talk to him, Bobbie finally felt ready to give things another shot with Emmett.

But viewers later find out it’s too late. After Emmett tried dating Monica (guest star Cheri Oteri), he knew it wasn’t going to work and ended things. Realizing he had broken her heart just like Bobbie had broken his, he decided to step away from dating altogether.

So, to give him the space he needed, Bobbie chose not to share her feelings and instead let him go for now.

What We Know About Happy’s Place Season 3 So Far

So, where does this leave everyone going into Season 3?

Well, Happy’s Place showrunner Kevin Abbott recently spoke with TV Line and shared what fans can expect.

Of course, the big question on everyone’s mind is whether Bobbie and Emmett will get back together. For now, Abbott says he’s exploring several ideas for how their dynamic could move forward.

“I’ve got a couple of ways to go, and I’m weighing, number one, which do I think is the most interesting, but number two, what’s going to yield us the most interesting stories,” he tells the outlet.

He continued by saying that he really enjoys the relationship between the two characters and wants to make sure their story is handled in the best way possible.

“I’m not sure where it’s going to go yet, but it’s going to still be a big part of the show,” he adds. “We’re not putting it out there just to leave it alone.”

Season 3 could also dive deeper into storylines for some of the guest stars who have appeared in recent seasons.

Fans may finally get more details about Happy’s past affair with Isabella’s mother, Maritza (Justina Machado). Abbott shared that this was something they planned to explore when she first appeared in Season 1. Unfortunately, they couldn’t move forward at the time due to scheduling conflicts that limited her availability.

Jane Lynch, who appeared as Gabby’s mother, Valerie, could also land a recurring role in upcoming episodes.

Season 2 ended with Gabby agreeing to move in with her mother, which left the door open for more story to come from that. However, once again, that just depends on Lynch’s availability.

“I love Jane, and I love the character, but we can only use her if she’s available — much like Maritza,” Abbott explained. “We have several stories with Maritza we’d like to explore, and it really just comes down to, “Do we have the actress when we can shoot the episode?”

Viewers can also expect MORE guest stars!

In its past two seasons, Happy’s Place has become known for its surprise guest appearances. And for Season 3, the plan is to keep that tradition going.

“We got word… I don’t know if it’s still true, but I hope so… that Octavia Spencer wanted to do the show,” Abbott revealed.

He also said he’s not against bringing back past guest stars. Abbott said he’d love to work with Steve Howey and JoAnna Garcia Swisher again.

Looks like Season 3 of Happy’s Place could be the most exciting, drama-filled season yet!

As of right now, there’s no confirmed date for when the new season will premiere. So, stay tuned!
