’90s legend Jo Dee Messina surprised American Idol finalist Hannah Harper during a concert on Wednesday night.
Hannah Harper returned to Willow Springs, Missouri, on Wednesday (May 6) for a hometown celebration in honor of her Top 3 status on American Idol. Fans from all over the state gathered to show their support for Hannah with a parade before she took the stage for a concert.
In keeping with seasons past, Hannah’s hometown visit was filmed for the Idol finale episode. Viewers will get to see highlights from each of the three finalists’ visits to their respective hometowns on Monday (May 11), but many who attended the day’s events have shared footage of the day’s exciting events.

Photos and videos show a massive crowd welcoming Hannah Harper home. Fans with signs lined the streets, cars were decked out with signs showing their support, and the local football stadium was packed with fans as far as the camera could see.

As Hannah was on stage singing “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” the song’s original singer walked out on stage and began to sing with her. The camera captured the moment Harper turned around and saw Jo Dee Messina.
Hannah was clearly shocked as she stared at Jo Dee, her hands in the air, and her jaw dropped. After composing herself, Harper introduced Jo Dee to the crowd, and they finished singing the song together.

“Heads Carolina, Tails California” played a vital role in Hannah’s American Idol journey. She revealed earlier in the season that it’s a song she sang for the Idol producers before being asked to audition for Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan. She revisited the song for her Top 11 performance.
