Jourdan Blue Earns Golden Buzzer With 2000’s Classic Hit

Jourdan’s journey is extraordinary, going from being homeless to receiving a Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent.

The young singer has had a challenging journey and humorously reflected on it during a performance when he was asked to share a bit about himself. He lightened the mood by saying, “Growing up, my mom was a police officer and my dad was a lawyer, so naturally, I turned out to be a rebel.”

After a brief period of homelessness during his younger years, Jourdan’s grandfather discovered that he was living on the street and came to pick him up.

The singer’s love for his grandfather was evident not only in the way he spoke about him but also in the fact that he kept him on FaceTime the entire time so that his grandfather could see him perform on AGT.

Before his performance, he revealed that he spent most of his time busking in New Orleans, which is how he provides for his newborn son and his girlfriend.

“I’ve had a lot of really cool experience through it, but it’s also a struggle. I go out and I sing from probably around 8 p.m. to 2 or 3 a.m., or until the cops kick me out of the street.” He continued, “It’s what I do to provide for my girlfriend and my son Jax.”

Once on stage, Jourdan said,

“And as you might remember, at the beginning of the year, there was an attack on New Orleans, right on the exact block where I perform. It just— It made me realize that there’s so much more to live for.”

The young singer was referring to an attack that took place on New Year’s Day 2025, when a man named Shamsud-Din Jabbar ran a rental car through Bourbon Street. More than a dozen people lost their lives, including the attacker.

Jourdan shared his experience of the attack and began to tear up. Once he regained his composure, he started singing a cover of “Breakeven.”

After his performance, Howie Mandel gave the singer the coveted Golden Buzzer. Jourdan shed tears and fell to the ground, overwhelmed with emotion. He reached up and put some of the golden falling confetti into his pocket.

As Jourdan walked off stage, the judges said, That guy’s gonna be a star.”

What Is The Golden Buzzer?

America’s Got Talent is back for its 20th season, and the first episode featured two Golden Buzzer acts.

For those unfamiliar, the Golden Buzzer is a prestigious honor on the show.

This season, the four judges—Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and Mel B—along with host Terry Crews, each have the opportunity to use their golden buzzer twice. This means there can be up to ten Golden Buzzer winners in season 20.

With two already awarded in the first episode, only eight remain as the season unfolds. The Golden Buzzer allows winners to advance directly to the live shows.

Besides Jourdan Blue, the second Golden Buzzer winner was Light Wire, a performance company that combines LED lights, dancers, and innovative technology to create stunning visual experiences.

The immersive act often appeared to leap off the stage at the audience, complemented by beautiful, complex, and synchronized dancing.

However, it was the light show that truly captivated the crowd, leaving Simon Cowell to declare it one of the best performances he has witnessed to date.

He said, “I’m not just saying this. This was one of the most beautiful, stunning acts I have seen on America’s Got Talent.”
