Chip Gaines Scored Major “Fun Dad” Points With His Kids This Summer
“Fixer Upper” star Chip Gaines took all five of his children on an epic road trip this summer.
Shared in a post by his wife, Joanna, on Instagram, Chip reportedly packed all of the couple’s kids up and embarked on an unforgettable adventure.
โChip asked the kids to go on a road trip with him for Fatherโs day. Each kid got to pick where they wanted to go,โ Joanna shared.
Including the song “Ends of the Earth” by Lord Huron in the post, she shared video footage from the family’s stops, recorded by their oldest daughter, Ella.
“Chip asked the kids to go on a road trip with him for Father’s day. Each kid got to pick where they wanted to go and Crew chose Oklahoma first bc he wanted to see a tornado and red dirt. Then on to New Mexico โก๏ธ Utah โก๏ธ Arizona โก๏ธ and then back in Texas to Marfa where they decided to surprise mom and get another puppy. We named her Marfa ๐ฉต,” Joanna wrote.
The video showed many different views across the states they visited, including the “Oklahoma” sign and beautiful red rock in what appears to be Lake Powell, Utah.
The pair’s children, Drake (20), Ella (18), Duke (16), Emmie Kay (15), and Crew (7), appeared to have the time of their life.
“Chip, you’re such a fun dad. They’ll never forget this trip!” Joanna continued.

Chip & Joanna’s Children Are Growing Up Fast
Chip and Joanna quickly became household names after their hit HGTV showย Fixer Upper rose to popularity. On the show, the Gaines regularly gave viewers a glimpse into their offscreen lives, which included introductions to the creative duoโs children. After the show wrapped in 2018, the couple went on to complete their family with a 5th child.
The reality television star recently shared how his older kids were quite different, especially when it came to choosing colleges. Perhaps one of the reasons he is valuing this time together is because Ella is headed off to college soon.
โWe canโt wait for her to decide. Ella has thought about Korea, sheโs thought about sunny Southern California,โ Chip shared. โSheโs not going to be in the Central Texas area when she goes on to her next chapter. She seems excited to be able to spread her wings and do something very unique and outside the bubble.โ
He joked that sending off his oldest, Drake, was simply to teach him some survival skills.
โWith Drake, we needed to send him to college to teach him basic survival skills, like how to do laundry,โ Chip said. โElla is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. It feels like weโre sending this young lady off to become the next president of the United States. Itโs very the skyโs the limit with Ella.โ
The Gaines family still live in a farmhouse in Waco, Texas.
