Dolly Parton Fans Petition For Nashville Airport To Be Renamed After Her

The city of Nashville is showing major love for Dolly Parton in a big way.

A petition that started in January is calling to rename Nashville International Airport after the “9 to 5” singer.

According to Fox News, nearly 50,000 people have already signed the petition in support of the idea.

Dolly Parton is an East Tennessee native who has always shown love for her roots. That’s one of the main reasons the petition was created in the first place.

Along with her incredible impact on country music, she’s also known for constantly finding ways to give back to her community.

“As proud citizens of Tennessee, we are motivated by our deep-rooted admiration for the national treasure and Tennessee legend, Dolly Parton,” the petition reads. “She is not only a celebrated artist who encourages love, acceptance, and goodwill through her music, but also a philanthropist, known for her countless contributions to society.”

Just about everyone knows Parton’s theme park, Dollywood. She opened the attraction in 1986 to show appreciation for her hometown in the rural mountains of Sevierville, Tennessee.

Today, Dollywood stands as the largest employer in the region, providing jobs for roughly 4,000 people.

Her efforts to give back haven’t stopped there. Since 1995, Parton has run her Imagination Library. The organization partners with local groups to provide free books to children around the world.

She’s also made many large donations over the years to causes like the Salvation Army, Hurricane Helene relief efforts, and much more.

The petition continues, “We request that the airport’s name be changed to Dolly Parton International Airport to honor an icon who has given so much to our state and to the world. We could all be Departin’ from Parton!”

Truly, if Nashville’s airport were to get a name change, there may not be a better person to honor than Dolly Parton.

However, as of now, Tennessee lawmakers have not made any official comment on the petition or the possibility of renaming the airport.
