Dan + Shay’s “10,000 Hours” is the first country-led song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Dan + Shay have secured their spot in Spotify’s Billions Club as their collaboration with Justin Bieber surpasses 1 billion streams. This milestone marks a historic achievement in the country music industry as the track is the very first country artist-led song to reach such a significant feat.

“That means the song has been listened to for approximately 46,388,889 hours (and counting),” Dan + Shay explained on social media. “That’s also about how long it would take us to express how grateful we are for everyone who helped make this happen. Thank you for listening and being a part of this milestone that we’ll never forget!”

Dan + Shay’s Spotify Milestone

This is an incredible accomplishment for the country duo, especially when you think about all the big names in country music. They were the first to hit this huge milestone, which is very impressive.

“10,000 Hours” was released on their fourth album, Good Things. More recently, in September 2023, they dropped their fifth album, Bigger Houses. This one’s got a different vibe, less of that “pop” feel they had before, going back a bit more to their country roots with 12 tracks that bring a fresh sound.

Dan + Shay’s 11-Year Journey

This milestone occurred just a week after the 11th anniversary of the duo’s first encounter.

Smyers hosted a house party at his rented Nashville home on December 7, 2012. Secured through Craigslist, the place lacked heating and air conditioning, and the interior temperature was a chilly 26 degrees on the day of the event, according to CMT. Mooney, accompanied by some friends, joined the gathering and, in typical Nashville fashion, brought along a guitar, kicking off an impromptu singing session.

In the weeks that followed their initial meeting, the duo came together to write and record demos for multiple songs. Their goal was to pitch these tracks in the hope that bigger artists would take an interest and record their compositions.

Eleven years later, they continue the tradition of celebrating the day they first met.
