Cody Johnson Tributes His Success To His Wife After Award Win
After Johnson’s big win, extratv interviewed him. He shared his plans for after the award show, stating that he and his wife intend to enjoy Whataburger and get into their pajamas to relax before the post-show party.
Johnson also chatted with the interviewer about who he thought would win the award. He said, “I had Jelly Roll as my pick for this; I had Chris Stapleton, and I even had Post Malone in mind. I was the last guy in the room who thought I was going to win it.”
After sharing a few light-hearted jokes about how he built a trophy room and was overwhelmed by the number of text messages he received, the singer shifted his tone to speak about his wife. His demeanor changed, and he appeared almost reverent when he said:
“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Brandi. I’m gonna try not to get emotional because I’ve been doing it all night; I’ve been holding it in. You know?” He then said the next sentence in air quotes: “A cowboy’s made of leather.”
Tears began to form in his eyes as he said, “If it weren’t for my wife, I wouldn’t be here. I would probably be dead or in jail, and she has stood by me through so much.”
The whole moment was incredibly touching. Watch below.
