Winning The Voice
Season 15 of The Voice brought some amazing talent to the stage. When it came down to the final decision, 16-year-old Chevel Shepherd stood neck and neck with Chris Kroeze. Both influenced by country music, the race was tight. At the end of the day, it was Chevel who took home the win – making it Kelly Clarkson‘s second consecutive win with a teen singer.
Giving Back To Her Community
After winning The Voice Chevel revealed to ET Live that she had plans to embark on a career in country music. But before heading to Nashville, the teen explained that “I’m gonna go home and thank everyone for the support they’ve shown me along this whole crazy journey.”

“God Bless America”
And that is exactly what she did. During the New Mexico Governor’s inauguration, Chevel gave back to her community by performing a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America.” The patriotic tune has been sung at various sporting events and throughout different political campaigns. Even world-renowned pop star, Celine Dion has tried her hand at the song while standing aboard the USS Harry S. Truman.
A Dazzling Performance
So when the New Mexico Ice Wolves needed someone to sing “God Bless America” at a hockey game in 2019, they knew just who to call. Wearing an Ice Wolves jersey, Chevel stood on the red carpet at center ice and performed the song flawlessly with no music to accompany her.
