Carrie Underwood Did Not Attend The 2023 CMA Awards

Carrie Underwood scored a nomination for CMA Entertainer of the Year at the 57th annual CMA Awards. It was her sixth time being nominated, but she has yet to win the trophy. This year, the award went to Lainey Wilson.

Entertainer of the Year was the only award Underwood was nominated for at the 2023 CMA Awards.

“Just to even be in the final category is just absolutely amazing and hopefully, above all, we can all just remember that it’s a celebration of a great year in country music and in our careers as artists,” Underwood said before the ceremony. “We’ll just see what happens, but definitely excited to be in that category.”

As performers were announced in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, Underwood’s name was not on the list. Fans started to wonder if she would attend the CMA Awards at all.

The CMA Awards were held on November 8, and Underwood did not make an appearance on the red carpet. Fans initially held out hope she’d still be in the audience, but she was not in attendance.

She Previously Attended Every CMA Awards Ceremony For 18 Years, And Hosted For 12 Of Them

Underwood used to be a staple performer and presence on the CMA Awards. She attended every year for 18 consecutive years. For 12 of those years, she served as the ceremony’s co-host.

She hosted the ceremony with Brad Paisley from 2008-2018. Over those 11 years, they became known for their comical opening numbers and parody songs.

Paisley stepped down from hosting duties after 2018. Underwood hosted the awards for the last time with Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire in 2019 before she also stepped down from her role.

Carrie Underwood Is Known For Her Outstanding CMA Awards Performances

Viewers certainly missed seeing Underwood during the 2023 CMA Awards. She’s known for her many outstanding performances from past years. Last year, she was part of the opening tribute to Loretta Lynn and also performed her then-new single, “Hate My Heart.”

While Underwood wasn’t at the CMA Awards this year, she was likely resting up for her next big thing.
