American Idol Aired A Gospel Special In Honor Of Easter
American Idol aired a three-hour gospel special for the Easter holiday on Sunday, April 20th. The episode, titled “Songs of Faith,” was confirmed by People on April 3rd.

The episode was packed with faith-based performances from the Top 20, all three judges, and special guests CeCe Winans, Roman Collins, Jelly Roll, Brandon Lake, and The Brown Four.
Many singers on this season have already performed faith-based songs, so this special is right up their alley. There is also a video that has gone viral of the contestants breaking out into a worship song during Hollywood Week.

Canaan James Hill has performed several gospel songs during his tenure on the show and so has Breanna Nix, who made Carrie tear up about bringing faith into the entertainment industry.
Breanna Nix Performs X Song
The stay-at-home mom has been winning fans over with her impressive covers ranging from Kelly Clarkson’s “The Trouble With Love Is,” to Lauren Daigle’s “Still Rolling Stones” and Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude.”
And who could ever forget her auditioning with Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel” while Carrie was rocking Breanna’s son to sleep.
For the Easter special, Breanna performed the “Up To The Mountain” by Patty Griffin.
“Up to the Mountain” is a song about the feelings surrounding Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech. Griffin released her original recording in 2005 and many notable artists have since covered the song.
The track gained a previous American Idol connection when Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson covered it during a charity episode in 2007.
18 years later, Breanna brought “Up to the Mountain” back to the Idol stage and rose to the occasion. Whether singing at a near-whisper or hitting a sky-high note, Breanna delivered a performance that judge Luke Bryan perfectly described as being “effortlessly” done.
Speaking of the judges, all three gave Breanna a well-earned standing ovation at the end of her performance and showered her with compliments.
Lionel Richie let her know there wasn’t a single thing wrong with her performance.
Carrie Underwood told Breanna she is consistently “solid,” which she noted is “a big deal in this industry.”
On top of complimenting her performance’s effortless quality, Luke mentioned its “purity” and said he “was captivated” by her voice.
Now, you can watch Breanna Nix’s incredible Easter performance below.
To make things even better, it was revealed that Breanna advanced into the Top 20! Next, we’ll see if she lands a spot in the Top 14!
