Breanna Nix Made Jelly Roll Cry On Monday Night’s (April 28) Episode Of American Idol
The Monday night episode of American Idol celebrated some of the singing competition show’s “most iconic moments.”
Fantasia, the winner of Season 3, mentored the Top 12 contestants. Each contestant performed a song that a former contestant performed on the show or a former contestant’s original song.
A few memorable performances were Slater Nalley’s take on “Angel From Montgomery” and John Foster’s rendition of “I Told You So.”
Fan-favorite singer Breanna Nix chose to perform “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” by Danny Gokey, who came in third place in season 8 behind Adam Lambert and eventual winner Kris Allen.
After his time of American Idol, Gokey went on to become a popular Christian singer, so it makes perfect sense that Nix would choose a song of his.
Every performance Breanna gives is better than the last and when the camera panned to her husband and their son in the audience, it reminds us why she is on the show in the first place.
She had us captivated with every lyric she sang, singing “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again” as though she wrote the emotional song herself.
After holding a big note towards the end of the song, Nix took a second to take a deep breath before delivering the very last, emotional lyric. Her voice was shaky, showing us she is human and the song was getting to her as much as it was getting to us. After she sang the final lyric, she looked up and said, “Thank you, Jesus.”
The camera cut to this season’s Artist In Residence, Jelly Roll, who could be seen wiping a tear from his eye.
Did Breanna Make It Into The Top 10?
After they all recreated their iconic performances, host Ryan Seacrest revealed who was moving on to the Top 10. Seacrest revealed that almost 22 million votes had been cast that evening!
He read the following names that were going to move on to the Top 10:
John Foster
Josh King
Jamal Roberts
Mattie Pruitt
Thunderstorm Artis
Slater Nalley
Gabby Samone
Canaan James Hill
Kolbi Jordan
Breanna Nix
This meant that Filo and CHE would be going home.
The audience went wild when Breanna’s name was called to be in the Top 10. What a well-deserved honor! She jumped with joy and yelled, “Thank you, Jesus!”
Taking to social media to express her gratitude after the results, Nix said, “When I came to American Idol, I never imagined I’d even make it past the first audition… so to be standing here in the Top 10 feels completely surreal.”
She continued, ” I’m overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude. To God be all the glory. I’ve pushed myself in ways I never thought possible, and the growth I’ve experienced—both personally and artistically—has been life-changing. Thank you, truly, for believing in me, supporting me, and being part of this journey. This is only the beginning. Let’s go to the TOP.”
