Billboard Music Awards’ Top New Artist Goes To…A Country Singer

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards took place on Sunday, November 19, and the award for Top New Artist went to a country singer!

What are the Billboard Music Awards?

The Billboard Music Awards (or BBMAs for short) is the annual award show held by Billboard, the music magazine known for its weekly charts. This year’s show is being broadcasted live on BBMAs.watch. Performances and awards are being given out at unique locations around the country!

Mariah Carey, Peso Pluma, Karol G, Morgan Wallen, Stray Kids, Bebe Rexha and David Guetta, Tate McRae and NewJeans are all slated as performers.

Due to the format, all performances have been pre-recorded.

Country artists lead nominations.

Taylor Swift lead the pack with 20 total nominations, while Morgan Wallen was close behind her with 17. Zach Bryan was nominated for 13 awards, but has 14 total nominations.

Zach Bryan takes home multiple awards

The country singer took home the all-genre award for Top New Artist! He beat out Peso Pluma, Jelly Roll, Ice Spice, and Bailey Zimmerman.

As of press time, he also was awarded Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album for American Heartbreak, and Top Rock Song for “Something In The Orange.”
