On Wednesday’s (May 1) episode of The Masked Singer, a duo was eliminated, and therefore unmasked, revealing themselves as two American Idol alumni.

Season 11 of the hit show The Masked Singer premiered on March 6, 2024. This season, the contestants were split up into three groups: A, B, and C. Each group would compete against each other until only one singer remained. The winners of each group would then compete in the show’s quarterfinals.

The May 1st episode had the three remaining contestants of Group B competing for a spot in the Quarterfinals. The three contestants were Gumball, Seal, and Beets.

The theme of the night was the soundtrack of my life night. Gumball performed “Carry On My Wayward Son,” Seal performed “It’s Tricky,” and Beets sang “One Moment In Time.”

In their clue package, the Beets said they wanted to perform “One Moment In Time” because “a single moment in your life that shows you what you’re capable of…that moment was when we each became fathers.”

One of the Beets said, “I always wanted to be a dad but I wasn’t sure that it would happen for me. So when I held my child for that very first time, my world changed.”

After each performance, the contestant revealed a connection to either a panelist or host Nick Cannon. The Beets’ connection was to Cannon. They said, “Nick, always good seeing you. We should drink together again sometime soon.”

Seal was the first of the night to be eliminated and unmasked, revealing himself as former child actor Corey Feldman. Gumball and Beets then sang head-to-head in the Battle Royale. They sang “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” famously from the film Dirty Dancing.

The judges chose Gumball as the winner, advancing him to the Quarterfinals, meaning the Beets were eliminated and unmasked. The judges have guessed Boyz II Men’s Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman, Josh Groban and Brian McKnight, Dan + Shay, and K-Ci & JoJo.

In a previous episode, Beets performed “I’m So Excited.”

Did the judges guess correctly?

Nope! This was one of the only times this season that none of the judges guessed even close to who was revealed under the mask!

Once they managed to take their masks off, it was revealed that the Beets were American Idol stars Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken! The duo, who kicked off a joint tour on April 12th together, competed on the second season of the show.
