Jamal Roberts Won Season 23 Of American Idol
After a night filled with incredible performances, Season 23 of American Idol concluded on Sunday, May 18. Each remaining contestant, Breanna Nix, Jamal Roberts, and John Foster, performed five times: a group performance, three solo performances, and one with one of the judges.
Jamal’s first performance of the night was with Breanna and John to Queen’s “We Are The Champions.”
He then sang “First Time,” a song originally by the artist TEEKS in 2021.
Next, he performed “Just My Imagination” as a tribute to his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi.
The third song each finalist performed was their single they would be releasing after the show. Jamal’s is called “Heal.”
Lastly, he sang a mashup of the Jelly Roll songs “Unpretty” and “Liar” with Jelly Roll!
In the last minutes of the show, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the results: Breanna placed third, John placed second, and Jamal was named the champion!
Jamal Reacts To His American Idol Win
Taking to Instagram after he won the show, the father of three could not believe it.
“HOWWWW is this even real?!?! I never could’ve imagined this when I first stepped on that stage. From my hometown to this moment right here… I’m your next American Idol,” he wrote. “To be a role model for my girls, my city, and anybody out there chasing something bigger, this means everything. Now I get to do what I love, with the best in the game, and share my voice with the world. This is my dream… and it’s just the beginning. I love y’all more than words can say. Thank you thank you thank you.”

Jamal’s win comes just two days after announcing the birth his third daughter, Gianna. She joins big sisters Lyrik and Harmoni.

The Judges React To Jamal’s Win
