On April 20th, Scotty McCreery will be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

It will fulfill a lifelong dream of McCreery’s, who had dreams of being a country music singer since he was a young boy.

When was Scotty McCreery invited into the Grand Ole Opry?

During his December 3rd show at the Opry, Garth Brooks surprised him on stage with a Christmas present. While the box was empty, Brooks said, “Tonight is merely an invitation,” signifying to McCreery what question was about to be asked.

After accepting the invitation, the “This Is It” singer told the audience that being an Opry member has been a lifelong goal.

“When I got started doing this young, people said, ‘What’s your goals?’ I said, ‘I want to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.’ I have stepped in this circle so many times over the years. It’s always been my biggest goal in country music and wondering, maybe this is the night. It didn’t even cross my mind. I wasn’t even thinking about it. I was just coming to sing some Christmas songs.”

The “Cab In A Solo” singer shared the following statement:

“It has been my longtime goal to be worthy of Opry membership. I am overjoyed to join this prestigious family that is the heart of country music. To be invited by my hero Garth Brooks and to be inducted by another hero Josh Turner is beyond what I could have ever dreamed.”

The induction makes Scotty’s country music career come full circle.

Scotty burst on the scene in 2011 when he competed on the tenth season of American Idol. He ended up winning the season, beating out fellow country star (and Grand Ole Opry member) Lauren Alaina.

He was just 16 years old when he auditioned for the show, performing Josh Turner’s 2005 hit song “Your Man.”

And now, 13 years into his career, which includes five No. 1 singles, Josh Turner will be inducting him into the Grand Ole Opry! We definitely will be tuning in on April 20th!
