Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn Were One Of The Greatest Country Duos Ever
You would struggle to name a more iconic country duo than Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Something magical happened whenever the two close friends shared the stage or a recording booth.
Throughout their time as a duo, Twitty and Lynn brought us some of the greatest duets in history, such as “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” and “After the Fire is Gone.”
Twitty and Lynn released 11 studio albums and 13 singles together. Their last album, Making Believe, was named after the song of the same title, which has been a country music staple for decades.
“Making Believe” was written years ago by country musician Jimmy Work. Although he recorded the song himself, his version was overshadowed by a cover recorded by Kitty Wells. Wells brought the song to the second spot on the country chart, while Work’s recording peaked at the fifth spot.
After the success of Wells’ version, other artists jumped to record “Making Believe.” Emmylou Harris took the song to the top of the chart in Canada and scored a Top 10 hit in the U.S. Other artists who have recorded the song include Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Ernest Tubb.
